The Notary seal on a document is the most powerful symbol of a Notary Public’s authority, but not all stamps/seals are created equal. We’ve put together a list of the top 3 things you should consider before choosing your Notary stamp supplier.

1. State Requirements

The commissioning state dictates the design and appearance of the Notary Public stamp/seal impression. These specific guidelines are important to pay attention to in order for your notarizations to be deemed legitimate. Even ink color is closely regulated in many states. The distinction between a milled border and a serrated border may appear minor and insignificant, but such distinctions are critical in order for your Notary seal to be considered valid.

2. Quality Production and Style

While at first it may appear like any old stamp will do, once you start using your Notary stamp/seal you will quickly notice whether the one you chose is made with quality and a Notary’s needs in mind, or if it is a quickly thrown-together generic version.

Key points to look for are whether it is self-inking, has a comfortable and secure grip, bears a laser-engraved imprint, uses a clear preview window for precision alignment, and if the ink cartridge is easy to change.

Notary Public Underwriters uses the highest professional quality materials to create all of their stamps. Our rubber, Delrin, and acrylic are manufactured specifically for laser engraving by companies that specialize in laser engraving materials. Our stamp bodies and embossers are sourced from the most reputable companies possible. Our production department thoroughly inspects each item before it is used for cosmetic or mechanical defects, ensuring that the best product possible ends up in your hands.

3. Performance and Longevity

Over the years, we have actively kept our finger on the pulse of the science and practice of stamp manufacturing. We’ve studiously followed every change and advancement within the industry.

There are many ways to make a stamp, but we have seen through 30+ years of hands-on experience that not all techniques are created equal. We have transitioned from originally burning rubber utilizing a vulcanizing method to “cooking” photosensitive polymer in exposure units.

Today, we manufacture almost 100% of our items on multiple laser engravers. The laser engraving provides the crispest, cleanest imprint possible while maintaining its integrity through the many impressions demanded of it.
