Tennessee New Law: Senate Bill 888
Tennessee Senate Bill 888 became effective April 6, 2015. We encourage you to read the notary law in its entirety. The bill addresses when a record of a fee must be kept. In addition, the bill applies privacy laws to bank notary records.
The main emphasis of the bill is that a notary or the notary’s employer may charge a reasonable fee for a notarial act. Even if the employer charges the fee, the notary should record the fee; but, the notary fee only needs to be recorded when it is charged separately from any other fees.
